Yerson Mosquera Valdelamar (born 2 May 2001) is a Colombian professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Club career

Born in Nueva Colonia within the municipality of Turbo in Colombia's Antioquia Department, Mosquera was first exposed to football at the Fundación Elkin Murillo Amor (later renamed for Nayo Murillo) founded by his uncle Elkin Murillo, before joining the youth setup of Club Atlético Urabá and later returning to his uncle's personal club, Filanda Fútbol Club. Although now a defender, he was a forward and winger as a young child, playing as a central midfielder at the age of 11 before being moved to centre-back.[1]

He joined Atlético Nacional in 2018,[1] making his debut for its first team in the 2020 Florida Cup.[2] His professional debut came in October 2020, where he was sent off in a Copa Sudamericana game against River Plate.[3]

On 17 June 2021, Mosquera joined Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers on a five-year deal.[4]

International career

Mosquera is a Colombian youth international and has trained with the senior squad.[4] He was called up to play in the 2019 SBS Cup with the Colombian under-18 team,[1] starting in two matches.[5] and was also expected to be called up for the under-20s in the 2021 South American U-20 Championship.[1]

Style of play

Mosquera is considered a strong, pacey defender, both strong in defensive duels and in his technical skills.[1]

Personal life

One of Mosquera's uncles is former Colombian national team striker Elkin Murillo, whose club he played for as a child. Nicknamed "Ye" as a child and at Urabá, and "Yerri" at Atlético Nacional, Mosquera is one of ten siblings in his family (including a foster brother).[1]
