Danny Jones

Daniel "Danny" Alan David Jones,[1] (born 12 March 1986 in Bolton, Greater Manchester, England,[2] is one of the lead vocalists and guitarists in the British pop band McFly, along with fellow band members Dougie Poynter, Tom Fletcher and Harry Judd.

Biography

Early life

Jones grew up in Bolton, with mother Kathy, father Alan and sister Vicky. The family also kept two police dogs as pets.[2] During his teens he attended the Thornleigh Salesian College alongside older sister Vicky, however, because of his unique influences and dress-sense, was bullied (later going on to write the song Not Alone, on the bands first album, about his ordeal).[citation needed]

His earliest claim-to-fame as a teenager was when he was in a band with sister Vicky called Y2K, who appeared on CBBC talent show "Steps to the Stars" in 2000 singing a cover of Alanis Morissette's Thank U. The band made it into the final, coming through at 2nd place.[citation needed] Shortly after turning 15, Jones entered two separate competitions - an open-mic singing competition, where he sang an Oasis number, and a songwriting competition a year later (versions of this song, Silence in the City, a song written by Jones and his mother to commemorate [[September the 11th]], can be found on the internet) winning both competitions.[citation needed] Jones claims that he also spent a lot of his later years of school playing clubs and bars for money - this decision was supported by his parents.

McFly rose to fame in 2004, this was heavily influenced by their association with former band Busted who helped launch them by offering them the position of support act in their tour, A Present For Everyone.[3] Jones met Tom Fletcher when he auditioned for the boyband V (whom he had mistaken as being a more Bustedesque band), Fletcher, who was filming the auditions for Island Records, later approached Jones. The two conversed and found they had common interests and so Fletcher invited Jones to write with him and James Bourne.[4] When writing projects for Busted had ended, the two began writing for their own (as of yet, unnanmed) band, eventually moving, temporarily, into the InterContinental Hotel, in London.[5] Drummer (Harry Judd) and bassist (Dougie Poynter) were subsequently recruited via an advert placed by the duo in the NME magazine.

Jones has co-written all four of McFly's studio albums along with his fellow band members. He also penned three of his own, solo, tracks, one on each McFly album.[6][7][8] Jones also often takes the role of lead guitarist in most performances, with Fletcher acting as rhythm guitar, and can be seen performing solos in songs such as That Girl. Jones is left handed but plays his guitar right handed.[citation needed]

Personal life

Jones currently resides in his London apartment; situated on the top floor of a three-storey apartment block; bandmate Dougie Poynter lives on the bottom floor, with the band's personal studio situated in the middle. Other bandmates Judd and Fletcher also live in the same gated community, commonly known as McFly Village. During 2007 Jones also bought himself a beagle puppy whom he named Brucie (in honour of his idol Bruce Springsteen).

Jones has two tattoos - a large music tribute, complete with music notes and song lyrics from Bruce Springsteen's 'If I Should Fall Behind', star and part of a guitar, covering the calf of his right leg, and the words "Good ef" across the top of his foot (as in Good Effort; the other McFly members have similar tattoos.

Television and film appearances

Jones has appeared alongside his McFly bandmates in many TV shows. In January 2005, they guest-starred in an episode of the long-running British drama series Casualty,[9] and in 2007 made a cameo on Doctor Who episode "The Sound of Drums".[10] They also apppeared on Ghosthunting with...[11] and Gordon Ramsay's The F Word.[citation needed]

Jones has appeared with McFly at many televised music events, including T4 on the Beach and the first annual Nickelodeon UK Kids Choice Awards.[12] They also starred in the teen comedy film Just My Luck with Lindsay Lohan and Chris Pine.[13]

Without his bandmates, Jones has appeared on several shows, including Never Mind the Buzzcocks.[14]. Danny recently took part in the charity match, Soccer Aid. Jones played a full 90 minutes and lost the man of the match to Craig David, although many say Jones should have won it. Jones also set up the England goal for Alan Shearer. And he also appearead on the recent edition of 8 out of 10 cats on Channel 4.
