4:13 Dream is the upcoming 13th studio album by The Cure.[1] After the album had been pushed back many times, the label has set an official release date for 27 October 2008.[2] The album was originally planned to be a double album, but Robert Smith confirmed in recent interviews that the album will be a single album, despite the fact that 33 songs have been recorded. [1] Smith has said that the album will mostly be comprised of the upbeat songs they recorded, while the darker songs may be released on another album. The title was announced on August 21st as "4.13 Dream" and corrected to "4:13 Dream" on the 24th.

On 1 May 2008, The Cure, via their MySpace, posted a bulletin in which they confirmed that the album would be released on 13 September. The bulletin also said that the 13th of each month leading up to the release of the album (May, June, July, and August) would see a new single being released that would feature an a-side and b-sides; the first one, "The Only One", was released on 13 May, with the second, "Freakshow", being released on 13 June. "Sleep When I'm Dead" was then released on 13 July, and "The Perfect Boy" followed on 13 August. All four singles have b-sides which will not appear on the album. On 16 July, Robert Smith announced the album will be pushed back to 13 October (now set for 28 October), and in September's place, an EP will be released with remixes of the four singles titled Hypnagogic States.

Some of the songs on the album were pulled out from earlier album sessions. An example is "Sleep When I'm Dead" from The Head on the Door recordings, and "A Boy I Never Knew", a re-recording of an unreleased song from The Cure.

On 6 October 2007, The Cure played a song from the new album for the first time in the middle of their Download Festival set list.[2] The song, "The Only One" (then titled "Please Project") would go on to be the album's lead single. Since then, the band has slowly introduced other songs from the album. In order to finish their album by early spring 2008, they delayed their North American tour from September–October to April–May.

On the 2008 "4 Tour" the band performed "Underneath the Stars", "The Perfect Boy", "A Boy I Never Knew", "Sleep When I'm Dead", "Freakshow", "The Only One", and "Baby Rag Dog Book" at various shows.

The official track listing was first put on The Cure's website by Robert Smith on September 15th, 2008. He also mentioned the other tracks that were recorded as the "dark album companion," saying they will be released at another time; jokingly stating that he would like to get them out by his next birthday, April 21st, 2009.
