(11278) Telesio is a asteroid of the main belt , which on 26 September 1989 by the Belgian astronomer Eric Walter Elst at the La Silla Observatory ( IAU code 809) of the European Southern Observatory in Chile was discovered.
The asteroid was named on March 20, 2000 after the Italian philosopher and naturalist Bernardino Telesio (1509–1588), who tried to replace the Aristotelian philosophy of matter and form with a dynamic theory of antithetical forces and thus showed himself to be a forerunner of the Enlightenment .
