(1221) Cupid is an asteroid after which a whole class of asteroids ( Cupid type ) was named, the orbit of which runs partly within the orbit of Mars .
Cupid was discovered in 1932. It moves at a distance of 1.086 AU ( perihelion ) and 2.754 AU ( aphelion ) around the sun . Its orbit is inclined 11.878 ° to the ecliptic , the orbital eccentricity is 0.435. On its orbit it can approach the earth up to 16.3 million km and thereby 14.2 may become bright.
The mean diameter of Cupid is estimated at 0.9 to 1.9 km.
