(1497) Tampere is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 22 September 1938 by the Finnish astronomer Yrjö Väisälä at Iso-Heikkilä Observatory ( IAU code 062) in Turku was discovered.
The asteroid is a member of the Koronis family, a group of asteroids named after (158) Koronis.
The celestial body bears the name of the Finnish city of Tampere .
