(165) Loreley is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on August 9, 1876 by the German-American astronomer Christian Heinrich Friedrich Peters .

The asteroid was named after the Loreley , the enchanting female creature who, according to legend, was the doom of the Rhine boatmen.
