(17305) Caniff is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 24 September 1960 by the Dutch astronomer Cornelis Johannes van Houten , Ingrid van Houten-Groeneveld and Tom Gehrels at Palomar Observatory ( IAU code was discovered 033).
The asteroid was named after the American comic artist and author Milton Caniff (1907-1988), who created the comics Terry and the Pirates and Steve Canyon and was known as Rembrandt of the comics because of his attention to detail .
