(17703) Bombieri is an asteroid of the main belt , which on September 9, 1997 by the American Italo- astronomer Paul G. Comba at Prescott Observatory ( IAU code 684) in Arizona was discovered.
It was named on January 9, 2001 in honor of the Italian mathematician Enrico Bombieri , recipient of the Fields Medal in 1974 and numerous other awards in the field of mathematics .
