(1916) Boreas is an asteroid of the Cupid type , which was discovered on September 1, 1953 by the Belgian astronomer Sylvain Arend at the Royal Observatory of Belgium ( IAU code 012) in Uccle .

The name of the asteroid is derived from the Greek deity Boreas , who personifies the winter north wind.
