(19730) Machiavelli is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 7 December 1999 by the American US amateur astronomer Charles W. Juel at the Observatory of Fountain Hills ( IAU code 678) in the State of Arizona was discovered.
The asteroid was named after the Florentine politician , diplomat , philosopher , historian and poet Niccolò Machiavelli (1469–1527), who is one of the most important state philosophers of modern times because of his work Il Principe (" The Prince ") .
