(2096) Väinö is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 18th October 1939 by the Finnish astronomer Yrjö Väisälä at Turku was discovered.

The asteroid was named after the magician Väinämöinen , a central figure in Finnish mythology. At the same time, the asteroid is dedicated to the explorer's brother, Väinö Väisälä .
