(2183) Neufang ( 1959 OB ; 1933 MC ) is an asteroid of the central main belt , which was discovered by the German astronomer and geophysicist Cuno Hoffmeister on July 26, 1959 at the Boyden Observatory near Bloemfontein ( IAU code 074).

designation

(2183) Neufang was named after Neufang , a district of the city of Sonneberg in Thuringia . In Neufang is the Sonneberg Observatory (IAU code 031), the discoverer lived Cuno Hoffmeister and worked there for decades by having founded the Sonneberg Observatory. The name was suggested by the employees of the Sonneberg observatory.
