(22203) Prothoenor is an asteroid belonging to the group of Jupiter Trojans . This describes asteroids that move around the sun on the Lagrange points on Jupiter's orbit .
(22203) Prothoenor was discovered on September 24, 1960 by the Dutch astronomers Cornelis Johannes van Houten , Ingrid van Houten-Groeneveld and Tom Gehrels at the Palomar Observatory ( IAU code 675). It is assigned to the Lagrangian point L 4 .
The asteroid is named after the mythological Greek hero Prothoenor from Boeotia , who commanded eight Greek ships in the Trojan War and was killed by Polydamas off Troy .
