(29214) Apitzsch is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on October 2, 1991 by the German astronomers Lutz D. Schmadel and Freimut Börngen at the Thuringian State Observatory Tautenburg ( IAU code 033) in Thuringia .

The asteroid was named on February 9, 2009 after the German amateur astronomer Rolf Apitzsch , who has been pursuing near-earth objects and discovering new asteroids at his private Wildberg observatory since 1999 .
