(3009) Coventry is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on September 22, 1973 by the Russian astronomer Nikolai Stepanowitsch Tschernych at the Crimean Observatory ( IAU code 095) in Nautschnyj .

The asteroid was named after the English industrial city of Coventry , which was bombed several times and badly destroyed by the German Air Force during World War II .
