(3087) Beatrice Tinsley is a main belt - Asteroid , which on 30 August 1981 from Mt John University Observatory near Tekapo was discovered.

The asteroid was named after the New Zealand astronomer Beatrice Tinsley (1941–1981), who developed the first comprehensive models of the evolution of stars and the abundance of heavy elements in galaxies.
