(3416) Dorrit is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on November 8, 1931 by the German astronomer Karl Wilhelm Reinmuth at the State Observatory Heidelberg-Königstuhl ( IAU code 024) near Heidelberg . In its eccentric orbit around the sun, Dorrit crosses the orbit of the planet Mars .

The asteroid was named after the American astronomer Dorrit Hoffleit (1907-2007), the author of the Bright Star catalog .
