(3607) Naniwa is an asteroid of the outer main belt , which on 18 February 1977 by the Japanese astronomer Hiroki Kosai and Kiichiro Furukawa at the Kiso Observatory ( IAU code 381) in Kiso in Nagano Prefecture on the main Japanese island of Honshu was discovered.

The asteroid was named after the original name of Japan's third largest city, Osaka , which was the capital of Japan from 645 to 655 under the Kōtoku - tennō and where Toyotomi Hideyoshi built Osaka Castle from 1580 .
