(416) Vaticana is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered by Auguste Charlois in Nice on May 4, 1896 . The asteroid is named after the Vatican Hill on the right bank of the Tiber near Rome , which also gave the Vatican State its name.

The brightness in opposition to the sun fluctuates between 12.7 and 10.0 mag due to its orbital eccentricity. A brightness of 10.2 mag was achieved on June 5, 2008, which is the best possible value for a long time. Before that, a higher value was only achieved in 1910 with 10.0 mag.
