(4171) Carrasco is a main belt asteroid discovered on March 23, 1982 by Carolyn Jean Spellmann Shoemaker from the Palomar Observatory .
Measurements of the brightness fluctuations of the asteroid from April 2009 showed an amplitude of around 0.2 mag, whereby the number of extremes during a cycle cannot be clearly determined on the basis of the data and their analysis concludes a rotation period of almost 17 hours or twice as much , i. e. of not quite 34 hours.
The asteroid was named after Juan R. Carrasco (1931-2004), a collaborator at the Hale Telescope at the Palomar Observatory .
