(4612) Greenstein is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 2 May 1989 by the American US astronomer Eleanor Helin at Palomar Observatory ( IAU code 675) in California was discovered.
The celestial body was named on August 28, 1996 after the American astronomer Jesse Leonard Greenstein (1909-2002), who founded the astronomy training program at the California Institute of Technology (CalTech).
