(5040) Rabinowitz is an asteroid of the main belt , on 15 September 1972 by the Dutch astronomer Tom Gehrels at Palomar Observatory ( IAU code 675) in California was discovered.
The asteroid was named after the American astronomer David Lincoln Rabinowitz (* 1960), who mainly deals with the Kuiper Belt and the objects of the outer solar system.
