(5116) Korsør is an asteroid in the main belt of the solar system , which the Danish astronomer Poul Jensen discovered on March 13, 1988 at the Brorfelde Observatory ( IAU code 054). It is outside the 5: 2 Kirkwood gap , which is 2.82  AU .

The asteroid belongs to the Hygiea family, a rather older group of asteroids, as is believed, the largest member of which is the asteroid (10) Hygiea .

(5116) Korsør was named on January 24, 2000 after the port town of Korsør , located on the Great Belt on the island of Zealand ( Denmark ) , which is the birthplace of the astronomer Karl Augustesen who worked at the Brorfelde Observatory .
