(5171) Augustesen is an asteroid of the main belt , which the Danish astronomer Poul Jensen on September 8, 1988 at Brorfelde Observatory ( IAU code was discovered 054).
The asteroid was named on May 23, 2005 after the Danish astronomer Karl Augustesen , who worked for many years at the Brorfelde Observatory.
