(6126) Hubelmatt is a main belt asteroid measuring around five kilometers in length , which was created on March 5, 1989 by Zdeňka Vávrová , b. 1945, was discovered at the Klet observatory in the Czech Republic . On February 12, 2017, the asteroid, although long since numbered, was named by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) after the observatory built in 1966 by the Lucerne Astronomical Society on the site of a public school. The original domed building in the garden was replaced in 1979 by a new construction on the roof of the Hubelmatt West school building. Today's Hubelmatt observatory is open to the public on Tuesday evenings.
According to calculations by the Swiss asteroid specialist Markus Griesser from the Eschenberg observatory in Winterthur , the next time the asteroid (6126) Hubelmatt will be in the nights around August 4, 2020, with a distance of 187 million kilometers, will be close to the earth and will have a brightness of 16.0 magnitudes . It is therefore also accessible to smaller astrophotographic equipment, but hardly any direct observations through optical telescopes.
