(6798) Couperin is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 14 May 1993 by the Belgian astronomer Eric Walter Elst at the La Silla Observatory of the European Southern Observatory ( IAU code was discovered 809).
The asteroid is a member of the Koronis family, a group of asteroids named after (158) Koronis .
(6798) Couperin was named after the French composer , organist and violinist Louis Couperin (1626–1661), who composed more than 130 works for harpsichord and exerted a great influence on the organ music of the 17th century .
