(7038) Tokorozawa is an asteroid of the outer main belt , of February 22, 1995 by the Japanese amateur astronomers Naoto Satō and Takeshi Urata at the observatory of Chichibu ( IAU code 369) in Saitama Prefecture was discovered.
The asteroid belongs to the Themis family, a group of asteroids named after (24) Themis .
(7038) Tokorozawa was named on June 15, 2011 after the Japanese city of Tokorozawa , which is known as the "birthplace of Japanese aviation" as the first airfield in Japan was opened here in 1911 .
