(7907) Erasmus is an asteroid of the main belt , which was discovered on September 24, 1960 by the Dutch astronomer couple Cornelis Johannes van Houten and Ingrid van Houten-Groeneveld . The discovery was made as part of the Palomar-Leiden survey , during which Tom Gehrels examined field plates recorded at the University of Leiden with the 120 cm Oschin Schmidt telescope of the Palomar observatory ( IAU code 675) .

The asteroid was on 5 October 1998 by the Dutch theologian , philosopher , philologist and author of numerous books Erasmus named (~ 1467-1536), of a major European scholar of humanism and educators of the future Emperor Charles V was.
