(9629) Servet is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 15 August 1993 by the Belgian astronomer Eric Walter Elst at the observatory Caussols ( IAU code 010) in the south of France was discovered.
The asteroid was named on May 1, 2003 after the Spanish doctor , humanist scholar and anti-Trinitarian theologian Michael Servetus (1511–1553), who was convicted and executed at the stake for his heretical writings at Calvin's instigation .
