(9631) Hubertreeves is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 17 September 1993 by the Belgian astronomer Eric Walter Elst at the La Silla Observatory ( IAU code 809) of the European Southern Observatory in Chile was discovered.
The asteroid is a member of the Koronis family, a group of asteroids named after (158) Koronis.
(9631) Hubertreeves was named on September 28, 1999 after the Canadian atomic and astrophysicist and popular science author Hubert Reeves (* 1932), who contributed to the popularization of astronomy and cosmology with numerous books and films .
