Árnessýsla

The Árnessýsla is a district in the southwest of Iceland .

The Þjórsá river is the eastern border of the district. The Árnessýsla takes its name from the island of Árnes in the river where meetings used to take place.

The Árnessýsla has an area of ​​8991 km². Seven parishes belong to this sýsla. The bigger cities are Selfoss , Hveragerði and the ferry port Þorlákshöfn . In this district lie with Gullfoss , Geysir and Thingvellir some famous tourist attractions of Iceland.

The Árnessýsla is located in the constituency of Suðurkjördæmi .
