Åke Dahlqvist (born January 11, 1901 in Hallsberg , Sweden , † June 19, 1991 in Skanör , ibid) was a Swedish cameraman .

Life

Dahlqvist, who comes from southern Sweden, joined film at the age of 20 after completing his photographic training and initially learned the camera trade as a still and auxiliary photographer, several times under the direction of Gustaf Molanders . In this function he was also involved in the large-scale production of Ingmar's Erbe and “ Rausch ” (Synd, 1928) in 1925 . In the late silent film " The Seductress " (Hjärtats triumf) he was also allowed to work as a simple cameraman in 1929. As early as 1926, Dahlqvist was working alongside the experienced image veteran Julius Jaenzon for the first time as chief cameraman for a side work by Molander. In the 1930s, Åke Dahlqvist also photographed early works by the most important actresses exports from his country after Greta Garbo: Zarah Leander (in her debut “ Dantes mysterier ”, 1930) and Ingrid Bergman (in the films “ Munkbrogreven”, “Svedenhjelms”, “På solsidan ”and“ Intermezzo ”, 1934 to 1936).

Dahlqvist remained closely connected to Gustav Molander, who was highly respected in his country, until his career ended in the mid-1950s and photographed most of his films until then. Åke Dahlqvist has been behind the camera again and again in productions by other well-known Swedish directors such as Hasse Ekman , Per Lindberg , Lars-Eric Kjellgren , Gustav Edgren and Arne Mattsson . Most recently (from the mid-1960s) Åke Dahlqvist also photographed a number of erotic melodramas and thereby helped usher in the sex film wave in Sweden.
