Coordinates: 62 ° 32 ′  N , 15 ° 39 ′  O Ånge is a municipality ( Swedish kommun ) in the Swedish province of Västernorrlands län and the historic provinces of Medelpad and Jämtland . The main town of the municipality is Ånge .

Other localities are Alby , Erikslund , Fränsta , Ljungaverk , Torpshammar , Östavall and other small villages. Two important railway lines in the country cross in the municipality, the Norra stambanan and the Sundsvall – Storlien ( Mittbanan ) railway .

geography

Ånge municipality extends inland from Medelpad about 100 kilometers along the Ljungan River from west to east. The center is formed by the wide valley of the Ljungan, which forms a series of lakes in the western part. The valley is surrounded on both sides by steep hills. The hill country is barren, wooded, with many lakes and is traversed by the Ljungan tributaries cut deeply.

economy

The service sector dominates in the municipality. The largest employers are the municipality itself and the railway. The post office, which operated a larger distribution center in Ånge that was closed at the beginning of 2012, used to be one of the largest employers in Ånge. Industry, which employs less than 20 percent of the workforce, is concentrated in Alby and Ljungaverk.

Attractions

13 kilometers east of Ånge is Borgsjö , whose rococo church is well known. The church from the 18th century and its furnishings have been preserved unchanged. The geographic center of Sweden is also located in the municipality of Ånge.
