Ólína Guðbjörg Viðarsdóttir (born November 16, 1982 in Grindavík ) is an Icelandic football player . The defender played intermittently for the Icelandic national team from 2003 to 2014 . The defender has already scored 40 goals in league games for various clubs in Iceland, Sweden and England.
Club career
Ólína began playing football at her home club UMF Grindavík and moved to Icelandic record champions Breiðablik Kópavogur at the age of 19, who was not as dominant at the time as it was in the 1990s. But she became champion and cup winner in 2005 with the club and Supercup winner in 2006. The defender ended up in eighth place on the list of goalscorers with eight goals. Further stages of her career were together with her partner Edda Garðarsdóttir KR Reykjavík (runner-up and cup win 2007 and 2008), KIF Örebro in Sweden (three times fifth, but cup winner 2010) and in England the Chelsea Ladies , where they played in the FA Women's Super League 2013 narrowly escaped the descent. Chelsea are also the only club they haven't scored a goal for in the league. Only in the 1-1 draw in the WSL Cup against the Doncaster Bells was she able to score a goal for Chelsea. In 2013 she and Edda returned to Iceland and initially played for Valur Reykjavík (runner-up in 2013). In 2015, Ólína played for Fylkir Reykjavík , where she was team captain , while Edda had retired from her career. In 2017 she moved to KR Reykjavík, where she only had a few assignments.
National team
Ólína took part with the U-17 team in the 1999 Nordic Cup , in which the Icelanders finished sixth. Three years later she took part in the Nordic Cup with the U-21 team in the older age group and was seventh after three defeats in the preliminary round with a win on penalties against Greece.
Her first international match for the senior national team completed Ólína at the age of 20 on June 14, 2003 against Hungary in the qualification for the EM 2005 when she came on in the 78th minute. But she had to wait more than two years for her next international match. However, she continued to play in the U-21 team, with which she participated in the Nordic Cup again in 2003, but this time lost the game for seventh place on penalties against Finland. She was also used at the 2004 Nordic Cup, which took place in her home country. In four games they played four draws, which they even reached the game for 5th place against Germany and won this on penalties.
On June 24, 2005, she was back for the senior national team in the game against the USA and, as in the four following games, she played for the full 90 minutes. Then she was substituted in each of the following two games towards the end of the game. After a break from a game - in which she took part in the Nordic Cup with the U-21 team for the last time and came in fourth - followed two games with short appearances as a substitute or substitute. In the next eleven games of the national team, she came only once in May 2007 for a brief assignment.
From the Algarve Cup 2008 she was a regular player and was missing only once in 44 games. She was mostly in the starting line-up and was only replaced occasionally, mostly in the final minutes for tactical reasons. On April 25, 2009, she scored her first international goal in a 1-1 draw against the Netherlands. She was part of the squad for the 2009 European Women's Football Championship in Finland . Ólína was on the field in all three preliminary round matches. The team was eliminated from the tournament without any points, but lost to vice European champions Norway and world champions Germany only just 0: 1, making them the team with the fewest goals against the eventual European champions.
A high point in her career was reaching the 2011 Algarve Cup final against the USA , which was lost after a 2-1 lead with 2: 4, but was substituted in the 36th minute.
Her 55th international match was followed by a 16-month pregnancy break. Only in the third group game of the Algarve Cup 2013 she was used again, but was replaced as the third player in the 63rd minute. In the next three games, she did not see the end of the game on the pitch. However, she was nominated for the 2013 European Women's Football Championship , but only came on in the second group game against defending champions Germany when the score was 2-0. But she couldn't turn the game around, which was ultimately lost 3-0. In the 1-0 in the third group game against the Dutch, she was only substituted four minutes before the end of the game. The Icelanders reached the quarter-finals as the best third party in the group. Here she was in the starting line-up and played over 90 minutes, but lost 4-0 to hosts Sweden , where she was the best player in the Icelandic team.
After being used in the next game under the new national coach Freyr Alexandersson , there was a break of three games. At the Algarve Cup 2014 she was only used again in the third group game, but was substituted after 55 minutes. In the game for third place, she was substituted on and received her eighth of nine yellow cards 10 minutes after being substituted on . Of the following six games, she only took part in four, but always played over 90 minutes. On August 21, 2014, she made her last international match.
