The steam locomotive series kkStB 429 was a passenger - Tender Locomotive series of Imperial Royal Austrian State Railways (kkStB).
When the Schmidt superheater was ready for series production, Karl Gölsdorf modified the 329 series to become the 429 superheated steam variant . The smoke chamber was lengthened, the long boiler shortened accordingly, the high-pressure cylinder received piston valves, the low-pressure cylinder flat valve. The locomotive factory Floridsdorf , the Wiener Neustädter Lokomotivfabrik and the locomotive factory of the StEG delivered 57 pieces (429.01-57) to the kkStB.
Despite the small superheater surface, problems arose with the flat slide valve on the low pressure side. Therefore the following 126 machines were supplied with piston valves on both sides (429.100–225). At the same time, a twin variant with piston valves was tested, of which 197 pieces were finally procured by the kkStB (429.900–999 and 429.1900–1996).
The southern railway procured six compound machines (with piston valves), which they designated as 429.01-06 .
The 429s were used as universal machines and made up to 1200 hp with good coal. They were to be found almost in the whole area of the Danube Monarchy.
After the First World War there were the former 429s as series 354.7 with the ČSD , as series Ol12 with the PKP , with the railways of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes and later as series 106 with the JDŽ , as series 688 with the FS and while maintaining the serial number on the Romanian state railways. A total of 87 units (46 composite, 41 twin locomotives) remained with the BBÖ . The six Südbahn machines came to the MÁV , which gave them the designation 323.901-906 . In addition, the ex kkStB 429.116 came via the PKP as Ol12-24 to the MÁV as 323.907 , the name of which was later changed to 323.908 .
In 1939 the Deutsche Reichsbahn (DR) redesigned the twin machines as 35 201–241 and the compound machines as 35 301–346 . In the course of the fighting, some ČSD and JDŽ locomotives came to the DR. After the Second World War , the ÖBB had 46 twin locomotives , which were designated as class 35 , and 39 compound engines, which were designated as class 135 . The serial numbers were not changed compared to the DR.
The ČSD series 354.7
The ČSD converted all compound machines (27 of the first, 57 of the second design) into twin machines. Together with the 68 twin machines they took over, they had 152 units of the 354.7 series. With the exception of one engine, all locomotives received a second steam dome with a connecting pipe. The ČSD only withdrew the 354.7 series from its portfolio in 1967.
