The Ödenwinkel wall is 3326  m above sea level. A. high mountain peaks of the Glockner group on the border between East Tyrol and Salzburg. It was first climbed on July 30, 1872 by B. Lergetporer, M. Groder and J. Kerer. However, the first to climb assumed that they had climbed the Hohe Kasten . E. Friedl, R. Gerin and O. Pitschmann made the first crossing from Hohen Kasten on August 7, 1911.

The Ödenwinkelwand is located in the Tauern main ridge in the west of the Glockner Group in the core zone of the Hohe Tauern National Park . The mountain peak is on the border between the municipalities of Kals am Großglockner (East Tyrol) in the south and Uttendorf (Land Salzburg) in the north. When Öden angle wall is a glaciated rock massif in Kastengrat between the Kastengratwand ( 3220  m above sea level. A. ) to the west and Eiskögele ( 3423  m above sea level. A. ) to the east. The north face of the Ödenwinkelwand falls steeply to the Ödenwinkelkees, the southwest face to the Vorderen Kastenkees. The elongated southern ridge (vein wall) separates the Vordere Kastenkees in the west from the Laperwitzkees in the east. The closest valley is the Kalser Dorfertal in the southwest .

Promotion opportunities

The easiest way to climb is the southeast climb, which was also chosen by the first climbers. Here you climb up the Laperwitzkees from the Kalser Tauernhaus and reach the Firnsattel between Ödenwinkelwand and Eiskögele. Then the final ascent follows the Wechtengrat to the summit. The Ödenwinkel wall is usually climbed when crossing the Kasten ridge ( III-IV ), crossing the Hoher Kasten, Kastengratwand, Ödenwinkelwand, Eiskögele and Schneewinkelkopf .
