history
The company's history began in 1938 when the company founder Rudolf Ölz opened a small bakery in Dornbirn. The company made its breakthrough in business terms in 1953 with the development of the industrial production of baked peas , a product that was previously unknown in the trade and used as a soup . These baked peas were a complete success with consumers, which soon resulted in the outsourcing of production to the "Bäckerei am Mühlebach" location. The production of cakes was soon also carried out on a large scale. In 1963, stick cakes were sold wholesalers for the first time , a mesh belt oven was installed in 1966 and two years later a fresh food service was set up to distribute the goods.
In 1974 the company building, which has meanwhile developed into a large bakery, was expanded and converted. In addition, the company LAND-LEBEN Nahrungsmittel GesmbH & Co. KG was founded in the same year as a collaboration between Helmut Ölz and Alois Ruhdorfer, based in Grödig .
Two other important company divisions were added to the range in the late 1970s and early 1980s. First toast bread was made in the bakery in 1978 , then Ölz made the first plaited breads in 1981 . In 1984, what is now the most important location in Achmühle, directly on the dam of the Dornbirner Ach, went into operation, and three years later it was expanded to include three additional baking lines. Expansion into neighboring countries took place in 1990 with the establishment of a fresh produce service in Switzerland. In 1997, Ölz Meisterbäcker GmbH & Co KG in Austria achieved a level of awareness of 93% supported and 49% spontaneous. One of Ölz's most successful products, the curd cheese strudel , was introduced in 1998. In 2002 and 2003 there were considerable additions and renovations both to the existing bakery on the Achmühle and to a new location in Wallenmahd , where a new toasting system was built in 2007, which was put into operation in 2008. Also in 2008, the previous owner Helmut Ölz handed over the property rights to the company to his three sons Bernhard, Martin and Florian Ölz. An expansion of the existing toast production plant at the Wallenmahd location in 2011 increased the annual output capacity of toast to around 100 million pieces.
A stake of 18.8 percent in the Viennese bread and baked goods manufacturer Ankerbrot , which was acquired by Ölz in 2013, was sold by the company in May 2019 in order to focus more on its own company and make extensive investments in the Dornbirn-Wallenmahd production site to be able to make.
