The Austrian Society for Foreign Policy and the United Nations (ÖGAVN) was founded in 2008 as a merger of the Austrian League for the United Nations (1945–2008) and the Austrian Society for Foreign Policy and International Relations (1958–2008). The ÖGAVN is a founding member of the World Association of Societies for the United Nations (WFUNA) and also has an independent youth organization, the Academic Forum for Foreign Policy (AFA). While the ÖGAVN only has an office in Vienna, the AFA has locations all over Austria.

aims

The main task of the ÖGAVN is to inform the Austrian population about questions of Austrian foreign policy as well as European and international issues. The ÖGAVN would like to promote the interest in international relations and the understanding of current international processes in politics , economy and society and make them accessible to the broadest possible sections of the population. A special focus is the information on the activities of the United Nations and its sub-organizations.

activities

The ÖGAVN regularly organizes lectures and discussions with personalities from the fields of politics, diplomacy, business and science. Every Wednesday (except during the summer holidays) an International Club takes place in the ÖGAVN premises in the Stallburg in Vienna . In addition, foreign policy talks have been held every year since 1967 at Hernstein Castle , 45 km southwest of Vienna.
