Özcan Kızıltan (born July 12, 1959 in Istanbul ) is a former Turkish football player and coach.

Player career

Özcan Kızıltan began his career with Mersin İdman Yurdu and signed with the traditional club Fenerbahçe Istanbul after just one season . In his first year with the Blue-Yellows , the midfielder received little time. However, that changed in the following season. He became a regular player and won the Turkish Football Championship and Turkish Cup with Fenerbahçe .

During the third season nothing changes in his role as a regular player, but the team was unable to defend both titles. He surprisingly left the club and went to league rivals Sakaryaspor . In the 1985/86 season, Kızıltan experienced a descent from the Süper Lig for the first time with Sakaryaspor . The rise in the following season succeeded. He also won the Turkish Football Cup for the second time in his career in the 1987/88 season.

With the success in the cup he left the club and played again for Mersin İdman Yurdu for four years . He played his last game on October 18, 1992.

Coaching career

Kızıltan became assistant coach at Mersin İdman Yurdu immediately after his career ended , but for a short time. His next engagement followed in 2000 as a coach in the youth of Fenerbahçe Istanbul . After three years he became assistant coach at Christoph Daum's side . This was followed by positions as assistant coach at Gençlerbirliği Ankara and Çaykur Rizespor .

His first position as chief trainer was Turgutluspor . It followed: Tarsus İdman Yurdu , Bucaspor , Balıkesirspor and Sakaryaspor . During the 2009/10 season he took over the coaching post at Bucaspor for the second time. He finished the season with 2nd place and thus achieved direct promotion to the Süper Lig . It was his first success as a coach. He left the club after the end of the season.

For the 2010/11 season he was the coach of Göztepe Izmir and managed to move up from the third division to the second division in the first year. The Göztepe fans created a great euphoria, they dreamed of returning to the Süper Lig. The table said something different, after 16 matchdays the club was in the lower part of the table and they separated from Özcan Kızıltan. A few weeks after his release, he became a coach at Boluspor . The cooperation between coach and club was ended prematurely after seven games.

Before the 8th matchday of the 2012/13 season, he took over the post of head coach at the second division Kartalspor and replaced the resigned Besim Durmuş . After Kızıltan at Kartalspor could not bring about the hoped-for turnaround, he was released at the end of January 2013.

On March 1, 2013, he was introduced as head coach at the third division club Yeni Malatyaspor .
