The Übelsberg is 651.3  m above sea level. NHN high mountain in the southern Harz . It is located between Sieber and Bad Lauterberg in the non-parish Harz region of the Lower Saxony district of Göttingen ( Germany ).

The Übelsberg is located in the Harz Nature Park between Sieber in the northwest and Bad Lauterberg in the south. It is located on the watershed between the Graden Lutter flowing in the south, which is fed by the Übelsbach, which rises on the mountain, and the Krumme Lutter in the east , into which the Schadenbeek, which rises north of the mountain, flows. A ridge connects the mountain with the Aschentalshalbe in the north and with the Mittelberg in the south .

Natural allocation

The Übelsberg belongs in the natural spatial main unit group Harz (No. 38), in the main unit Upper Harz (380) and in the subunit Southern Upper Harz (380.8) to the natural area Oderbergland (380.81).

Protected area and forest

Parts of the Harz landscape protection area (district of Göttingen) ( CDDA no. 321403; 2000 designated; 300.112  km² in size) are located on the Übelsberg . The mountain is mainly covered with spruce, on the southern slope partly with beeches. In 1596 it was cleared and in 1630 there were spruce trees.
