Þór Saari

Þór Saari ( transcribed Thor Saari ; born June 9, 1960 in Miami Beach ) is an Icelandic politician who belonged to the parties of the Citizens' Movement , "The Movement" and Dögun .

Þór Saari was a seaman and boatswain at Eimskip from 1977 to 1987 , later did a Bachelor in Marketing ( University of South Carolina 1991) and a Master in Economics ( New York University 1995) and worked for the Central Bank of Iceland , among others . In 1997 he was editor of the United Nations Statistical Yearbook (41st edition). From 2009 to 2013 he was a member of the Icelandic parliament Althing for the southwest constituency , initially as a member of the citizens' movement . From 2010 to 2011 and after an interruption also in 2012 he was chairman of the Hreyfingin party ("The Movement"), which emerged from the citizens' movement. After Hreyfingin and the citizens' movement merged with the Liberal Party of Iceland to form Dögun (“Dawn”) in 2012 , Þór Saari initially stayed in Dögun, but left this party in 2014.

In the Althing, Þór Saari was a member of the committees for economics and taxes and for the budget . From 2011 to 2013 he was a member of the Icelandic delegation to the West Nordic Council .

In 2017 he was elected to the Board of Directors of the Central Bank of Iceland .
