The kkStB 197 was a tank locomotive series of the imperial-royal state railways of Austria for branch lines, which originally came from the KFNB . It had the axle formula Cn2t and was built by the Floridsdorf and Wiener Neustadt locomotive factories from 1888 to 1905.

Of the 43 units in this series, 33 belonged to the main railway network of the KFNB, two to the local railway network and eight to the local railway operated by the KFNB. The first machines were given names that can be read under KFNB IX . The 197.32-35 and 38-39 (ex. 916-917 , ex. 912-913 and ex. 918-919 ) had a slightly smaller firebox heating surface .

These machines were procured for the local railways Mutenitz – Gaya , Otrokowitz – Zlín and Lundenburg – Eisgrub .

The locomotives were used on the Drösing – Zistersdorf and Gänserndorf – Marchegg routes, among others .

After the First World War , the 40 surviving machines came to ČSD , which they classified as 310.101–140 . The 310.103, 129 and 130 later became ČSD 310.901–310.903.

In the course of the Second World War , 21 representatives of this series came to the Deutsche Reichsbahn (DR), which they named 98.7711-7731 . However, the DR soon decommissioned this series. The last machines were sold to Böhler - Kapfenberg as factory locomotives in 1944 .

One locomotive, the former 197.38 (ČSD 310.135, DR 98.7729), still managed to be included in the ÖBB 's fleet as 389.01 in 1953  , but was taken out of service on March 2, 1955.
