The locomotives of the class T 466.0 (from 1988: class 735 ) of the Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD) were diesel-electric universal locomotives .

history

To replace the steam locomotives on the hilly main and branch lines, a further locomotive was required in addition to the T 444 and T 478.1 series , which, with 1200 hp, should be between the other two types. The power transmission should be electric.

At that time there was no engine manufacturer in Czechoslovakia who could build a suitable engine. In 1968 it was possible to acquire a suitable diesel engine from SEMT Pielstick . The Turčianske strojárne, np Martin bought licenses for the construction of engines. This gave the locomotives the nickname Pielstick .

The locomotives were developed jointly by Turčianske strojárne, np Martin and the ČKD . The locomotive, like the previous locomotives at Turčianske strojárne, np Martin, was a construction with a raised engine driver's cab roughly in the middle of the vehicle. Initially, the locomotives had a PG 500 steam boiler for train heating, but the switch to electrical train heating had already been prepared.

In 1971 the first locomotive of this series was put into service and extensively tested. At the end of the trial it was handed over to the depot in Bratislava , and later it was assigned to the depot in Nové Zámky . At the end of 1972, the series locomotives followed until 1979, and were delivered to the depots in Bratislava, Břeclav , Zvolen , Budweis , Ostrava , Praha Vršovice, Žilina , Brno , Liberec and Hradec Králové until 1979. With the machines, the last steam locomotives could be replaced at the ČSD. The locomotives were used in freight and passenger train services, especially on hilly routes. Five locomotives were used by various industrial companies from the start, making a total of 304 units.

With the delivery of the T 466.2 series, however, the star of the locomotives began to decline because the diesel engine consumed too much and was too maintenance-intensive. That and the difficult procurement of spare parts meant that they were gradually shut down after around 20 years of service. In 2002 the last original locomotive of this series was retired. The original T 466.0286, which is stored in the Railway Museum Lužná u Rakovníka, has been preserved and is drivable .

A total of 60 locomotives were still used for the conversion to the ČD 714 series at the end of the 1990s , although essentially only frames and bogies were still used.
