Łukasz Marcin Kohut (born September 10, 1982 in Katowice ) is a Polish political scientist , photographer , social activist , entrepreneur and politician . He is the leader of the Wiosna (Spring) party in the Silesian Voivodeship ( Województwo śląskie ), regional party coordinator in the three Voivodships of Silesia, Opole and Lesser Poland, and a member of the Democratic Union of Silesian Regionalists and the Śląskie Perły Association . He is a member of the European Parliament in his 9th term.

Łukasz Kohut attended elementary school No. 4 in Radlin. He studied Political Science at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the Silesian University in Katowice (2006) and Management and Marketing at the School of Management of the Silesian University (2007). In 2006 he studied management and marketing in Varkaus, Finland, at the Savonia University of Applied Sciences as part of the Socrates Erasmus program . He also completed an educational course at the Cracow University of Technology (2005) and the School of Civil Society Leaders (2014).

In addition to his native Polish, he speaks English , Norwegian , Czech and Silesian dialect .

Career

Shortly after graduating, he worked at a bank in Sosnowiec . In 2008 he emigrated to Norway , where he worked in accounting, among other things. In 2010 he moved to Prague , where he coordinated an international project between Norway, the Czech Republic and the Philippines. He also coordinated the international exchange between Ås videregående skole (Norway) and ZST Rybnik .

He has been working as a freelance photographer since 2015.

Sociopolitical activities

After returning to Poland in 2012, he became a member of the Ruch Palikota (German Palikot movement ), which was converted into Twój Ruch (German: your movement or you are on the train , TR for short) in 2013 . In 2012 he became secretary of the Rybnik Movement and in 2014 chairman of the party executive in District 30. In the local elections in the same year he was excluded from the list of your movement to the Silesian Regional Council and received 1,435 votes. In the 2015 general election, he ran to represent TR in second place on the United Left's list and received 5,397 votes (best on the list).

In 2015 he also became a member of the Democratic Union of Silesian Regionalists ( Demokratyczna Unia Regionalistów Śląskich ), an association that promotes regional education and registration of the Silesian language as a regional language. In 2016 he organized protests in southern Silesia together with the Śląskie Perły association to which he belonged. This association also initiated the establishment of the Rybnik Women's Council in 2018.

In a poll by the newspaper Dziennik Zachodni, he won “Man of the Year 2016” in Rybnik.

In October 2017, he took part in protests against Polish President Andrzej Duda during his visit to Wodzisław Śląski .

In 2018 he left Twój Ruch . In the local elections in the same year he was the top candidate of the district list of the citizens' coalition for the elections at the provincial parliament. However, the Nowoczesna party ultimately recommended Wojciech Kałuża as a candidate, so Kohut was unsuccessful.

From 2017 he worked with Robert Biedroń at the Institute of Democratic Thought . In 2019 he became a member of the Wiosna party and a top candidate in the European Parliament elections in constituency No. 11 (Silesian Voivodeship). He received 48,783 votes (3.05%) and won the mandate of the 9th term MEP as one of three Wiosna politicians.

In 2016 Smolna made her debut in the Rybnik Gallery with the exhibition “Silesian Melancholy”. In the same year there was a second exhibition on Silesia - including FEST photography on the Rybnik Promenade and during the Rybnik Photography Festival. In 2017 in “Hallo! Rybnik ”presented the border region with the third part of the history of Silesia. In 2018, the Photo Well was awarded the main prize of the readers of the Silesian Library as part of the Silesian Press Photography and the photo by Jastrzębie and Zdrój was awarded a special prize from the BWA Gallery for Contemporary Art in Katowice .
