Ōkami-san ( Japanese オ オ カ ミ さ ん ) is a light novel series written by the author Masashi Okita and illustrated by the artist Unaji . The series was published by ASCII Media Works between 2006 and 2011 . In 2010 the book series was adapted as both a manga and an anime television series produced by JCStaff .
action
The focus of the plot is the pupil Ryōko Ōkami ( 大 神 涼子 ), who is one of the members of the school club Otogi Gakuen Gakusei Sōgo Fujo Kyōkai ( 御 伽 学園 学生 相互 扶助 協会 , dt. "Society for the mutual help of the pupils of the Otogi School"), short Otogi Ginkō ( 御 伽 銀行 , dt. "Otogi-Bank"), is. This school club has set itself the task of helping other students with their problems in order to later request a favor from the people who have helped out. The members of the club take on almost any risk. However, they still lack a male member in particular, as the club consists mainly of women. The choice falls on Ryōshi Morino ( 森 野 亮 士 ), who is obviously interested in Ryōko. However, it quickly turns out that Ryōshi is actually more than unsuitable for this task, as he suffers from scopophobia - the fear of being looked at.
The seven other members of the club are Ringo Akai ( 赤 井 林檎 ), Rist Kiriki ( 桐木 リ ス ト , Kiriki Risuto ), Alice Kiriki ( 桐木 ア リ ス , Kiriki Arisu ), Otsū Tsurugaya ( 鶴 ヶ 谷 お つ う ), Tarō Urashima ( 浦 島 太郎 ) , Otohime Ryūgū ( 竜 宮 乙 姫 ) and Majolica le Fay ( マ ジ ョ ー リ カ ・ ル ・ フ ェ イ , Majōrika ru Fei ).
Allusions
In the course of the plot, various fairy tale stories are parodied and the individual names contain allusions to fairy tales. Based on the Japanese words otogi no kuni ( 御 伽 の 国 , "fairy tale land "), otogizōshi ( 御 伽 草 子 , "fairy tale book") or otogibanashi ( 御 伽 話 , "fairy tale story"), otogi ( 御 伽 ) can be interpreted here as "fairy tale" and Otogi Gakuen and Otogi Ginkō are therefore understood as "fairy tale school" and "fairy tale bank". The following results in Japanese name order for the individual characters:
- Ōkami Ryōko and Morino Ryōshi: Ōkami is synonymous with Japanese for "wolf" ( 狼 , ōkami ) and Morino Ryōshi name on mori no ryōshi ( 森 の 猟 師 ) "hunter from the forest". Both names are an allusion to the fairy tale Little Red Riding Hood .
- Akai Ringo: The name is identical to akai ringo ( 赤 い 林檎 ) "red apple" and alludes to the poisoned apple from Snow White .
- Kiriki Risuto and Arisu: The names allude to the two eponymous animals of the fable Ari to Kirigirisu , Japanese for the ant and the grasshopper .
- Tsurugaya Otsū: The surname translated as “crane valley” alludes to the crane from the setsuwa (Japanese folk tale) Tsuru no Ongaeshi ( 鶴 の 恩 返 し , “The grateful crane”).
- Urashima Tarō: The name of the protagonist from the fairy tale Urashima Tarō .
- Ryūgū Otohime: Princess Otohime of the Dragon Palace ( ryūgū ) from the fairy tale Urashima Tarō .
- Majolica le Fay: from le Fay Morgan from the Arthurian legend .

The Ōkami-san light novel series is written by the Japanese author Masashi Okita and uses illustrations by the artist Unaji . The first edition of the book series was published on August 10, 2006 under the title Ōkami-san to Shichinin no Nakama-tachi . The book series is published by the publisher ASCII Media Works , who published the 12 volumes under the imprint Dengeki Bunko .

Manga
In view of the adaptation as an anime television series, Ōkami-san was also adapted in advance as a manga series, which is drawn by Kurumi Suzushiro . It is based on the plot written by Masashi Okita and was published from February 27, 2010 (4/2010 issue) to August 27, 2012 (10/2012 issue) in Dengeki Daioh magazine , which, like the book series, is published by ASCII Media Works . Anime
Based on the light novel series, the animation studio JCStaff produced a thirteen episode anime television series. The series, directed by Yoshiaki Iwasaki , like the manga, took over the title of the first book volume: Ōkami-san to Shichinin no Nakamatachi ( オ オ カ ミ さ ん と 七 人 の 仲 間 た ち ).
It was first broadcast from July 1 to September 16, 2010 on AT-X . A few days later, the Japanese TV channels Chiba TV , Sun TV , Tokyo MX , TV Aichi , TV Kanagawa and TV Saitama also started broadcasting.
