Željko Jovanović (born November 26, 1965 in Rijeka , Yugoslavia ) is a Croatian politician ( Social Democratic Party of Croatia , SDP). From December 2011 to June 2014 he was Minister for Science , Education and Sport .

Life

Željko Jovanović studied medicine and economics at the University of Rijeka and received his doctorate there in 2005 to dr. med .; He initially worked as a doctor, from 1997 to 2006 he worked in the management of the Croatian branch of Hoffmann-La Roche , then for the Croatian branches of General Electric Healthcare and Schering-Plow .

From 1990 to 1992 he was a member of the SDP in the Parliament of SR Croatia . From 1993 to 2009 he was a member of the Rijeka City Council. From 2007 to 2011 he was a member of the Croatian Parliament . From 2008 to 2011 he was President of the National Council for overseeing the implementation of the anti-corruption strategy of the Croatian Parliament. From 2008 to 2011 he was a member of the party executive committee of the SDP.

In Zoran Milanović's cabinet, which has been in office since December 2011 , he was Minister for Science, Education and Sport; in a cabinet reshuffle in June 2014, he was replaced by Vedran Mornar .

Željko Jovanović is an ethnic Serb and took part in the Croatian war as a doctor on the Croatian side from 1993 to 1994 .
