The letter Ƴ (lower case ƴ) is a letter of the Latin writing system , consisting of a Y with a hook. It is included in the Africa alphabet and is used in some African languages ​​for a palatalized glottal plosive (IPA: ʔʲ ). Alternatively, the digraph ʼy is used.

One dispute was the placement of the tick on the capital letter Ƴ. While the hook was on the left in the Unicode tables, the Ƴ in the Africa alphabet and thus also in African texts had the hook on the right. The placement of the tick on the left has Unicode inherited from ISO 6438 . In the latest version, the table has been corrected and the tick has been placed on the right-hand side.

With LaTeX the Ƴ can be represented with the help of the fc fonts . The corresponding commands are \m Yfor the large and \m yfor the small Ƴ. In the fc fonts, the tick on the large Ƴ has been on the right-hand side since the beginning.

Unicode contains the Ƴ in the Unicode block Latin, extended-B at the code points U + 01B3 (uppercase letter) and U + 01B4 (lowercase letter).
