(1998)

… En their medh riki fara… ('… And they will happen gloriously…') is the first studio album by the German-Icelandic Viking Metal band Falkenbach . The title of the album comes from the Edda .

Emergence

In 1995 Vratyas Vakyas recorded what he said was the first official cassette Laeknishendr ( Old Icelandic : "Healing Hands") and published it in an edition of 33 pieces; the previous recordings were not intended to be passed on to persons unknown to him. According to him, sending the cassette to record companies was not primarily about a record deal, but about feedback on music and lyrics. Many of the record companies would have copied or even sold the tapes and cheated on him despite the enclosed return postage. Therefore, he saw an edition of 33 as too high and released the next cassette, Skinn af sverði söl valtiva ("The sun shines on the swords of gods"), in an edition of 9 and only passed it on to supporters and friends whom he trusted they wouldn't trade. According to his own information, he received feedback from Solistitium Records, No Colors Records , Merciless Records , Massacre Records , Adipocere Records, Morbid Records and Osmose Productions , three of these record companies are said to have been interested in a contract with Falkenbach. He chose No Colors Records because the record company showed real interest in the Falkenbach concept. After signing the contract, Steffen and Kay from No Colors wanted a promo cassette with two or three songs, for which Vratyas Vakyas chose a song by Laeknishendr and the title Galdralag . He declined payment for the cassette; he viewed it as a gift to friends.

Vratyas Vakyas chose the Blue House Studio because it was well equipped and the price seemed reasonable. Before recording, the record company required the studio to send Vratyas Vakyas a cassette of previous recordings so that he could decide whether he liked the sound or not.

All of the titles were older songs. Laeknishendr and Galdralag already appeared on Promo 95 tape, the songs can be found on Skinn av sverdhi sol valtiva . Heathenpride and … Into the Ardent Awaited Land… were not finished when Vratyas Vakyas went into the studio for the first time. In the studio he used keyboards , synthesizers , computers (e.g. for the timpani ), electric and acoustic guitars , pan flute , oboe and drums . Since the studio had little experience with metal, Vratyas Vakyas found it difficult to clarify what he wanted, but said there was nothing to regret.

… En their medh riki fara… was released on CD on July 29th, 1996 via No Colors Records. Due to the poor quality of the cover, a different supplement was used for the second version . The first version is limited to approx. 1500 publications and contains the only available photo of Vratyas in the booklet. The album was also released as a picture LP with the bonus title The Heralder (9:05), as a gatefold LP (both limited to 500 copies) and on cassette (limited to 250 or 300 copies (re-release)).

Music style and lyrics

The music draws on folk medieval melodies combined with the aggression of modern black metal , with the band not associated with the relevant scene. In terms of lyrics, the album is devoted to Nordic mythology , but not all of the lyrics have been printed; Vratyas Vakyas justifies this with the numerous errors in the text about Læknishendr on the Promo Tape '95 . For Vratyas himself, the album is more varied than the later album Ok nefna tysvar ty because of the variance of fast and slow, rough and epic songs .

Reviews

Frank Stöver described Falkenbach as probably the most promising band, which released a debut album in 1996, and the album far superior to anything else that is called Viking Metal, and next to Einherjer's album (meaning the debut Dragons of the North ) the best of the Genres. The rock-hard magazine put the album on the list of "250 Black Metal Albums You Should Know".
