... um one hour of luck is a German silent film melodrama from 1918 by Hubert Moest .

action

The lion tamer Rodrigo Malo is considered a spirited and rude, brutal and unscrupulous hothead who simply takes what he desires. He's been into the attractive dancer Cora Sterner for some time and is determined to win over her. But Cora is only disgusted by him and consistently gives Rodrigo the cold shoulder. But her "no" is not an option for Malo, who soon lives up to his name. Since her parents are also urging them to follow Rodrigo's requests, Cora leaves her parents' house and wanders aimlessly through the streets. She finds a new home at the goldsmith Bacharach's, who picks her up on the street in a miserable condition, and the man takes care of her father instead.

Cora helps Bacharach out in his business in the following years. When she was asked to hand over a piece of jewelry to the singer Manzoni, she received a ticket to an upcoming masquerade ball as a small present. Bacharach's housekeeper persuades Cora to accept this invitation, and so she borrows a precious diadem from the Bacharach jewelery depot that belongs to the Baroness von Waldau. Dressed in this way, she goes to the masquerade ball. Here Cora experiences the eponymous hour of happiness, but that is over suddenly when she is attacked on the way home and robbed of her diadem by Rodrigo, who also appeared at the ball in the mask of Othello .

Cora is completely dissolved and has to confess the terrible incident to her foster father Bacharach the following morning. He gets so upset about it that he suffers a stroke and dies as a result. Cora wants to restore his honor at all costs so that the dead Bacharach does not end up as a common thief. The first thing she does is return ruefully to her parents' house and find out that the jewel robber was Rodrigo Malo. Cora then plans a campaign of revenge against the nasty villain. Now at last she promises the obtrusive creep that she wants to become his wife if he takes out the diadem in return. This is how it happens: the baroness gets her diadem back. Rodrigo, who believes that he finally has Cora, is brought to justice by him and killed by her. Then Cora, who could only enjoy an hour of happiness in life, seeks suicide.

criticism

“This piece surprises with the effective staging and equipment, as well as the outstandingly beautiful play of the actors, who put all their artistic skills at the service of the cause to play their roles. In Iven Andersen you get to know a pretty, young artist who attracts attention with her likable play and appearance. "
